Forty-one facets in mauve and dusk pink, on a 900 × 900 mm panel.
The geometry here was built around a single ridge that runs the long axis of the panel, so the piece reads as one continuous fold rather than a field of separate peaks. Each facet was painted individually, in the order the light hits them - the palest planes face the morning sun, the deepest sit where the shadow gathers after noon.
Long shadows, maximum separation between facets. The geometry at its sharpest.
Shadows collapse. Colour takes over and the surface reads closer to painting.
Ridges catch, valleys drop away. The piece reads heavier, closer to sculpture.
A still photograph fixes one angle and one hour. The reel shows what the facets do as you move across the room.
Visit Melbourne to see the piece in person, or ask for a hand-painted facet sample for your finishes board.
